Volunteering at the Library

In recent weeks I have been volunteering at the Library on Monday afternoons. I started doing this as part of my Duke of Edinburgh project, however, I may not continue Duke of Edinburgh, although I am keen to continuing my volunteering. I am volunteering with my best friend Lydia. We are doing jobs like re-shelving books that have come out of quarantined and packing craft kits for families to come and pick up. Today we worked together to assemble Harry Potter activity bags for an upcoming event that the library is holding. We had to make these bags, because in an ordinary year they would have a bigger event with activities and costume wearing, but because of Covid they’ve had to make activity bags for people to pick up so that they can partisipate from home.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a programme for people in the UK age 14-24. It has a Bronze, Silver, and Gold level. I am currently doing my Bronze however it has been made challenging by Covid. Although I have been enjoying the activities I do for it, I’ve found keeping track of them using the DofE app incredibly stressful. The Bronze Duke of Ediburgh award requires me to pursue a physical activity, a volunteering activity and a skills activity for an hour each week. I have to do each of these for three months, and one of them for an additional three months. The one other thing it involves is an overnight expedition where I camp for two nights and do activities during the day.

In addition to my volunteering I have been learning Portuguese with an app called Duo Lingo which allows you to choose from a wide, wide range of languages to learn and helps you learn the ones you choose. i have also been doing my best to go on daily walks, although it has been challenging with the weather recently, to keep that up. Originally, as my physical activity I wanted to do fencing, but because of Covid, activities that take place in a club format have been cancelled.
